Thesis Project | Art publishing

Concept, brand identity, curation, and creative direction for an independent magazine dedicated to research photography and the evolving languages of visual arts
Graphic design  |  Art direction | Photography

This thesis project explores the intersection of photographic narrative and editorial graphic design. The magazine stems from the need to map contemporary artistic trends, offering a tangible printed space where the image is never mere decoration, but the core driver of a deep conceptual and social reflection.
Istitutional Project

An editorial piece that challenges traditional publishing standards through a flexible modular grid and radical typographic choices. The design intentionally steps back to serve the photography, establishing a quiet yet powerful dialogue between white space, rigorous geometry, and the pure expressiveness of light captured on printed matter.

The Visual Synthesis: Editorial Structure and Photographic Curation

The theoretical and practical core of this thesis revolves around designing a comprehensive editorial ecosystem. Rather than simply compiling portfolios, the magazine is envisioned as a true collector's item, where each issue explores a specific monographic theme through the lens of international artists and emerging photographers.

The research heavily focuses on the synergy between the tactile dimension of paper and the visual impact of the layout. To achieve this, the careful curation of paper stocks—combining high-fidelity matte coated paper for photo features and textured uncoated paper for critical essays—alongside the choice of smyth-sewn softcover binding, were crucial elements in delivering a multi-sensory reader experience.

The internal visual rhythm is paced by a calculated alternation of macro details, striking double-page spreads, and generous margins, allowing each visual essay to breathe and exist without external noise. From the logotype design—a crisp, essential typographic mark engineered for immediate recognition—to the launch mockups and digital communication strategy, the entire project reflects the philosophy behind the keyword "focus": an explicit invitation to slow down, observe, and dive into the complexity of contemporary imagery in an era of total visual overload.
